Following its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, Amazon Studios has dropped the official Expats poster for its upcoming miniseries starring Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. This marks The Farewell director Lulu Wang’s first venture into
The poster features Kidman’s character walking through an empty market street in Hong Kong. The limited drama will start streaming on January 26 on Prime Video.
“Set against the vibrant and tumultuous tapestry of 2014 Hong Kong, Expats centers on three American women – Margaret, Hilary, and Mercy – whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy,” reads the synopsis. “The series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred.”
Expats is written, directed and created by Wang, based on Janice Y. K. Lee’s internationally bestselling novel The Expatriates. Joining Kidman are Sarayu Blue (Never Have I Ever), Ji-young Yoo (Moxie), Brian Tee (Chicago Med), Jack Huston (Fargo), newcomer Tiana Gowen, Bodhi del Rosario (Station 19), Valarie Yu (Lucifer), Amelyn Pardenilla, Ruby Ruiz, and more.
Executive producers are Wang, Daniele Melia, Per Saari, Alice Bell, Theresa Park, and Stan Wlodkowski. The series is also co-written by Park, Bell, Lee, Vera Miao, and Gursimran Sandhu.
