Following the renewal announcement of Mayor of Kingstown, Deadline brings word that Emmy-winning actress Dianne Wiest will exit her regular role in the upcoming third season of Taylor Sheridan‘s crime thriller drama.
For two seasons, Wiest portrayed Mariam McLusky, the mother of Jeremy Renner and Taylor Handley’s characters. According to the outlet’s sources, Wiest’s exit has already been written into the Season 3 scripts even before the writers strike began.
Mayor of Kingstown hails from Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan, which marks his latest collaboration with Paramount following his hit family drama Yellowstone. Despite sustaining life-threatening injuries due to a snowcat accident, Jeremy Renner is still set to reprise his leading role as Mike McLusky in Season 3. The series also stars Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky, Hugh Dillon as Ian, Emma Laird as Iris, Aidan Gillen as Milo Sunter, and more.
“The series follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry,” reads the logline. “Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.”
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Mayor of Kingstown is executive produced by Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and Michael Friedman.
