Borderlands MPA Rating Disappoints Fans of Video Game

The official Borderlands MPA rating for Lionsgate‘s highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of the hit video game series has finally been revealed. The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on August 9, 2024.

What is the Borderlands MPA rating?

To some fans’ dismay, the Motion Pictures Association has granted the upcoming Borderlands movie a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of violence and action, language and some suggestive material.” This rating wasn’t what the fans of the Borderlands games had been expecting from the live-action movie, especially when the original source material is best known for its mature content. Because of this, some fans expressed their disappointment online while also sharing their worries about the movie’s possible lack of faithfulness to the original video game series.

The latest Borderlands character posters showcase the movie’s supporting characters, who will be joining lead stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, and Florian Munteanu. The colorful posters introduced Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx, Olivier Richters as Krum, Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, and Bobby Lee as Gary. Marcus, Moxxie, and Krum are familiar to fans of the original, since they were based on the video game’s NPC characters.

Borderlands is directed by Eli Roth from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Crombie. It will also include Haley Bennett, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond. The film is being produced by Arad Productions’ Avi Arad and Ari Arad, along with Picturestart’s Erik Feig, with Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford and CEO of Take-Two Interactive Strauss Zelnick executive producing.
