Netflix has released new photos showcasing the Fire Nation in the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series.
Posted on Twitter, Netflix shared new photos introducing fans to live-action versions of Fire Lord Ozai, General Iroh, Princess Azula, Commander Zhao, and Prince Zuko, played respectively by Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Elizabeth Yu, Ken Leung, and Dallas Liu.
Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005. Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the three-season animated series follows Aang, the last survivor of his nation who has the ability to bend the four elements — water, earth, fire, and air. Wanting to bring peace to the world, Aang and his friends must defeat the Fire Nation, who are led by a ruler hellbent on conquering everything in his sight.
In 2018, Netflix announced it would be making a “reimagined” live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender. DiMartino and Konietzko both serve as executive producers and showrunners for the series.
“Set in an Asiatic, war-torn world where certain people can ‘bend’ one of the four classical elements: water, earth, fire, or air,” the official synopsis reads. “Aang (Gordon Cormier) is the “Avatar”, the only one capable of bending all the elements, and is destined to bring peace to the world from the Fire Nation. With his new companions Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley), Aang sets out to master the elements while being pursued by the exiled Fire Nation prince Zuko (Daniel Dae Kim), who seeks to regain his honor by capturing the Avatar.”
Netflix is planning to release additional Avatar: The Last Airbender details during Geeked Week, which is being held November 6-12, 2023.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to release on Netflix in 2024.
