When the Star Wars sequel trilogy began in 2015, it introduced a new threat to the galaxy in the form of Supreme Leader Snoke. However, the character would surprisingly meet his end in the 2017 sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a move that left actor Andy Serkis hurt.

Speaking to GQ, Serkis — who provided the voice and motion capture for Snoke — reflected on his performance as the Supreme Leader. After appearing in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Serkis was happy to get to return for The Last Jedi but was left “gutted” after finding out that Snoke died in the film.

“Let me just phrase it like this,” said Serkis.”When I went in to read The Last Jedi, [I spent] the first 30 pages thinking, ‘This is the most incredible character.’ Then I turned the page: ‘And then Snoke gets sliced in half.’ And I was gutted. Gutted.”

Serkis went on to say that if anyone would want him to come back, he’d love to be able to play Snoke in the future. “I actually really love that character. And I’m putting it out there: I wouldn’t mind if he came back,” said the actor.

Since many fans loved the character in his first appearance, it came as a shock to see him killed off in The Last Jedi. As a result, Emperor Palpatine would return in the trilogy’s final film, 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as the primary villain.
