During the ongoing Star Wars Celebration event in London, Lucasfilm announced Filoni and Mangold would work on two separate long-feature projects. Producers didn’t unveil the name of the movies but teased Mangold will take on the dawn of the Jedi while Filoni’s project will take place in the New Republic days, wrapping up the interconnected stories in the Disney+ series like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Ahsoka. There is plenty of fresh news coming out of the event, including a brand-new movie focusing solely on Rey Skywalker, the first teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action series Ahsoka, and more.

Filoni is a familiar name to the franchise fans, who’ll rejoice to hear he’s directing one of the new Star Wars movies. After starting his career at Lucasfilm Animation with the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, he earned a devoted fan following. He also served as an executive producer and director on Star Wars Rebels before playing a pivotal role in the development of The Mandalorian, where he also directed the series premiere in addition to other episodes. Filoni is currently working on several Star Wars projects, including the animated series The Bad Batch and Ahsoka.

Mangold is popular among pop-culture fans for his appreciated take on the X-Men character Wolverine. In 2013, Mangold teamed up with Hugh Jackman to direct The Wolverine before joining forces again with the Australian actor for 2017’s Logan, which was both a critical and commercial success. The New York City-born director is currently working with Lucasfilm on the upcoming fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which will see the return of Harrison Ford as the iconic titular explorer. Mangold’s filmography includes Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, and Ford v Ferrari, among others.
