The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered the immediate enforcement on the ban in the sale or use of fireworks or other explosives during the Christmas and the new year celebrations in the state.
He added that the use of such explosives are capable of causing fire outbreaks this period.
The commissioner, who stated this in a statement signed by the command Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, urged parents and guardians to warn their wards against the use of fireworks as the police operatives have been mandated to Clampdown on the users.
The CP also announced that security has been beefed up in all parts of the state for a successful celebration of the yuletide and beyond even as he called on the people to report suspicious elements to the Police directly or by calling the following numbers ; 080-392-13071, 0802 091 3810.

βThe CP notes that the law banning the sale and use of prohibited explosives (knockouts inclusive) is still in force.
βHe has therefore requested parents/guardians to warn their children/wards to refrain from the use of all kinds of prohibited fireworks during and after the yuletide.
βHe further warns those who burn tyres on the main roads and highways during festivities to desist forthwith as such acts destroys the road and are capable of causing fire outbreaks.β
