Erik ten Hag will take charge of Manchester United for the first time on Tuesday when his side face Liverpool in Bangkok in their opening match of pre-season.

United arrived in Thailand over the weekend and have been put through their paces by Ten Hag ahead of their first test against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Tuesday afternoon.

United were thrashed by Liverpool in both of their meetings last season, and although this is only a friendly match, new manager Ten Hag will be eager to see his side put in a solid performance against their fierce rivals.

In terms of team news, Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay have overcome injuries to start and it appears the front three will be Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. Bruno Fernandes is the captain in Maguire’s absence.

A few of us in the press pack have had selfie requests on this tour and there was another one downstairs. There is only so long some of us can modestly decline them, however surreal it is to be deemed worthy of a selfie. But the enthusiasm is infections and the support for United out here admirable.

This game is not a sell out, though. People at United said it was but the stadium is not going to be full for kick-off. The ticket prices were exorbitant and some United fans don’t find the match as appealing because Ronaldo isn’t here.
