A fatal road crash has claimed the lives of seven commuters, with thirteen others sustaining varying degrees of injuries in Yobe State.
The incident, which occurred along Buni Gari-Gulani highway, was said to have been caused by over speeding, as well as dangerous overtaking.
The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Mohammed Goje, who confirmed the incident, said the agency, after receiving a distress call about the incident, mobilized its personnel to the scene where the victims were evacuated to hospital.
“Unfortunately, 7 persons died, 1 discharged, while 13 others are currently receiving treatment FREE at Government-owned hospital.
“The victims are mostly young adults between the age of 14 years”, he said.
Goje added that while they are being attended to, the State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya visited the Accident and Emergency Unit of Yobe State Specialist Hospital Damaturu to sympathize with the victims and offered cash donations to all patients on admission at the hospital.
