The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other important security agencies have been told to rescue Obiora Agbasimalo, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the last governorship election in Anambra State, from kidnappers’ den before Christmas.

Agbasimalo was whisked to an unknown destination by his abductors on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

The politician was kidnapped alongside his security aide on his way from Ezinifitte to Azia in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra while on his way for an election campaign.

The kidnappers have not yet contacted the Agbasimalo’s family or made a demand for ransom.

Following Agbasimalo’s abduction, several Civil Society Organizations (CSO) have been calling on the Nigerian Police and other important security agencies to make sure he is rescued.

In the long list of those calling for Agbasimalo’s freedom is the Centre for Freedom and Social Justice, a civil society organization.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the group slammed the Anambra State Police Command and other important security agencies for their cold attitude to the freedom of Agbasimalo.

The group also expressed sadness that the Police haven’t done anything to trace those holding Agbasimalo captive, a development it described as a failure on the part of the security operatives.

The national coordinator of the group, Edward Salawu, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, said Agbasimalo must be rescued and reunited with his family before December 25, which is Christmas Day.

“The loud silence from the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies over the sudden disappearance of Obiora Agbasimalo is no longer funny.

“Since his unfortunate abduction, the Police haven’t made any statement on their efforts to rescue him.

“This is totally unacceptable and must be condemned by all and sundry.

“We shall no longer fold our arms and watch this impunity continue.

“The Police in Anambra State must explain to us what happened to Obiora Agbasimalo.

“Who kidnapped Obiora Agbasimalo and what was the reason for his abduction, these are more of the questions many people are asking about being kidnapped?

“We call on the Police to ensure the freedom of Obiora Agbasimalo before Christmas Day. He must reunite with his family before December 25.

“Enough of the silence. The Police must speak out and tell the worried family, colleagues, friends, and associates of Obiora Agbasimalo what happened to their son.

“The Anambra State Commissioner of Police must wake up from its slumber and act fast before it’s too late,” the group said.
