Edo Queens on Wednesday picked a point against Confluence Queens of Kogi State in their match day three of the 2021/2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

The game, which was played at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, saw the visitors converting a 25th minutes spot kick through Ogbonaya Akudo to take in the lead in the first half.

Confluence Queens made several efforts to come back into the game but it never yielded result before the blast of the whistle in first half.

At the resumption of the second half, the home team mounted pressure in the side of their opponent before Ibinabor Georgewill header gave the host a relief in the front of their home fans.

Speaking shortly after the game, the head Coach of Confluence Queen Bashiru Laidi praised his players for coming back into the game.

He said “We were able to salvage the game in the second half. We came out smoking. The problem started from the first half as our approach was very bad and slow. That actually resulted into that penalty. At the second half, we told our players what to do and they came out in the second half to do justice into the game.

“The missing link in the first half performance is that there was no team coercion as most of the balls were played on the air. In the second half, my players changed tactics and they came back into the game even though we couldn’t get the three point.

“So far so good, we targeted nine points in three matches, but seven points is not bad. After the festive period, we will come back and continue from where we stopped.

He, however, expressed worries over the poor state of the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.

“The pitch is very dangerous to the players. This can cause serious injuries for our players. We are using this medium to call on the government to renovate this stadium before they kick us out from playing our home matches”.

On her part, the Head Coach of Edo Queens Wemimo Mathew said the game was impressive as they came to Kogi State to get maximum point.

“We missed all our chances. In the first half, we are supposed to score more than five clean goals. It is a fault on our own part which we will work on before our next game. Confluence Queens is also a good side with a good coach. They are doing well. For now, I must tell you, there is need for the government to renovate this pitch because it is in a bad condition.”

Kogi Confluence Queens who now have seven point in three games, will face Adamawa Queens after the Christmas and New Year break.
