Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed saddeness over the passage of former National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bonnie Iwuoha.
DAILY POST reported that the veteran journalist who also served as the former Managing Editor/Head of Editorial Department, Daily Times of Nigeria, between 1991 to 1993, and a Media Adviser to the then Governor of Abia, died on Monday in Umuahia, Abia State.
The death of the ex-NUJ national President was confirmed in a release signed by the NUJ National President, Chris Isiguzo and forwarded to DAILY POST on Tuesday night.
Reacting to the unfortunate Development in a statement by Onyebuchi Ememanka, his Chief Press Secretary, Governor Ikpeazu, described the late Iwuoha as a very professional journalist whose marks in the profession remain indelible.
He also described the deceased journalist as a gentleman of first grade and a fantastic team player.
The Abia governor said, โthe late Comrade Iwuoha was part of the inaugural State Executive Council pit together by the Ikpeazu administration in 2015 where he served as commissioner for Information.
โHe was soft spoken, patient and highly experienced in information management. Bonnie was, most importantly, a practicing christian who always put God first in all his dealings. Despite his great marks in the journalism profession, he remained very humble and calm.
โAs a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bonnie was well-grounded in the business of journalism and had all requisite and necessary contacts which he always placed at our disposal when needed. Even after leaving office as Commissioner for information, he remained part and parcel of our administration. His death is indeed very sadโ.
Governor Ikpeazu urged members of his family, his professional colleagues as well as friends and relatives of the Late Comrade Iwuoha to accept the reality of the situation since death remains one.of those inescapable destinies of all mortal men.
The Abia Chief Executive, however, prayed almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest and console his family.
