The National Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiat Wa-Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahya Jingir, has warned that the proposed nationwide protest announced by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) may not be the solution to Nigeria’s problems.
The cleric made the warning in an interview with newsmen in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, at the flagging off of the 2021 National Qur’anic competition.
This is coming days after the NLC warned the Federal Government against plans to remove the fuel subsidy in 2022, saying the action will be met with nationwide protests from the 27th January to 1st February 2022.
He said the proposed nationwide mass protests will only put Nigerians in a difficult situation rather than providing solution to the problem.
Jingir advised that NLC look forward to consultations between the Federal Government, traditional and religious leaders for the solution of the problem.
“I am not in support of any protest in the country, and I am not supporting the proposed fuel hike by federal government either.
“Nothing good comes from a protest in Nigeria, Look at what happened in EndSARS protest nothing positive comes out rather than killing and destruction of properties,” he said.
Commenting on the insecurity situation in the country, the cleric called on Nigerians to resort to self-defence against the incessant attacks on their communities.
Jingir however called on the Federal Government to probe the financial spending of those responsible for securing the lives and property of Nigerians.
