A 32-year-old fridge and air conditioner technician, Toheeb Akanji (aka T.Cash) has blamed the devil after stabbing a 42-year-old Damilare Babatunde to death in Ogun State.
Akanji was arrested by the police following a distress call received at Agbado police station at about 12:30 midnight on Saturday from one Oluomo.
The said caller had informed the police that the deceased, a transport union leader, who was at Blue Roof Hotel in Adiyan Gasline to celebrate with the hotelier, was stabbed by an unknown person.
Acting on the distress call, the DPO of Agbado division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, was said to have quickly mobilized his men to the scene.
On their arrival at the scene of the incident, the police team discovered that โthe deceased was lured out of the hotel and stabbed severally on the chest, hand and face,โ said the Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
According to Oyeyemi, it was also discovered that the victim struggled with his assailant, which he said made him to seize the cardigan he wore at the time of the incident as well as the knife with which he was stabbed.
While disclosing that the deceased was confirmed dead by a doctor at the hospital he was rushed to, Oyeyemi informed the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect must be hunted for and apprehended within 24 hours.
Upon Bankoleโs directive, the DPO and his men swung into action, and at about 5 pm of Saturday, the suspect was nabbed.
โOn interrogation, the suspect confessed killing the deceased, but blamed it on devil handwork.
โHe stated that he was at the hotel to find out who beat and injured one of his boys, but on getting there, the victim started fighting with him. It was then he brought out the knife he came with to stab him,โ Oyeyemi quoted the suspect as saying.
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the homicide section for further investigation diligent prosecution.
