Former Chelsea winger, Paul Canoville has identified Trevoh Chalobah as an ‘unbelievable player’.

Canoville said that Chalobah is so down to earth, adding that the centre-back was given his chance by Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, and he took it.

The 59-year-old said this ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

“He [Chalobah] is a very humble guy, very honoured,” Canoville told The Sun.

“I love what the youth academy has done… Neil Bath especially.

“It is a project of getting the young players to understand how the first-team plays and acts.

“That is what they have picked up.

“As soon as they have come in, right away they understand the system and that’s what makes them gel, that is what makes them not look out of place – they look like they have been there for how long.

“Trevoh, he is unbelievable. So down to earth… family orientated.

“He was given his chance and he took it.

“That is what any young player wants to be, he wants to be in that first-team and when he gets in that first-team, he has to take his chance, and that is what Trevoh has done.

“He is still willing to learn and that’s the main thing, and he will continue to do that.”

Chalobah had not played for Chelsea’s first team before the 2021/2022 season.

The 22-year-old was given his chance to impress during Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Villarreal in August 2021.

The England defender was handed his Premier League debut three days later as Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 3-0.
