Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso, has identified five players who made the difference during the Bluesâ EFL Cup quarter-final 2-0 win against Brentford on Wednesday night.
Chelsea defeated Brentford, thanks to an own goal from Pontus Jansson and a penalty from Jorginho in the second half.
Following a goalless first-half, Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, introduced the likes of Jorginho, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Reece James and NâGolo Kante in the second half.
The substitutes seemed to revitalize Chelsea, who took the lead in the 80th minute through Janssonâs own goal, before doubling their lead via Jorginhoâs penalty.
However, Alonso, who also hailed Chelsea fans, admitted that the impacts of Kante, James, Jorginho, Pulisic and Mount changed the momentum of the match.
âYes definitely, I think it was like the last push with the help from the guys [Kante, James, Jorginho, Pulisic and Mount] from the bench, a good win, a good performance as well,â Alonso said at his post-match press conference.
âIt was not easy for the fans to get here given the conditions, but it was a great win and a great atmosphere as well.â
