The Bridge Movement has cautioned a youth group in Cross River South Senatorial District planning to occupy the State PDP Secretariat in Calabar over alleged refusal to zone the 2023 governorship to their district.
It told the group to rather jettison such plan and present a credible governorship aspirant.
The group cautioned the youths not to cry wolf where there was none, urging them to put their acts together and market a strong aspirant who has the pedigree and ability to beat any other aspirant that could come from any other zone.
The advice was contained in a statement issued in Calabar and signed by its Director General, Courageo Michaels which cautioned the youths against ridiculing and embarrassing the party.
They described the plan by the youths as mischievous and wicked.
The Movement cautioned the youths against repeating 2015 history, advising them to toe the positive line.
According to them, PDP was now more focused, united, stronger and geared to take back power, and no group should detail the party’s formidability.
“We wish to remind them that the so-called zoning of elective political offices was introduced by the Party since its inception with the intention that, all parts of the country should taste political power through the policy in order to give each part a sense of inclusiveness.
“But being a party peopled by persons of sound reasoning and courageous enough to accept mistakes, the current leadership has weighed the pros and cons of the practice and decided to jettison it as it tended to encourage mediocrity.
“Our take is that since democracy is a game of numbers, lobbying, alignments and realignments are tools and strategies available to politicians for deployment in achieving success,” the group said.
