The Nigeria Police Anti-Cultism squad and personnel of the Osun Amotekun Corps were on Thursday, December 23, 2021 engaged in a gun duel by cult groups terrorising Oke-Ayepe area of Osogbo.
Information made available by Yusuf Idowu, the Osun Amotekun Media Officer disclosed that the gun battle began when a unit of the police Anti-Cultism squad and Amotekun personnel responded to a distress call from residents of the area.
The residents according to Idowu had complained that the suspected cultists, armed with dangerous weapons, were on rampage and disturbing the peace of the community.
At the end of the duel, scores of ammunition, double barrelled guns, pistols, locally crafted barrel guns and an Ak-47 assault rifle were recovered from the suspected cultists who fled the scene of the confrontation with gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, the Field Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Amitolu Shittu had directed that members of the gang be hunted down by all means available.
Shittu also appealed to hospitals within the State capital to alert the agency and the Nigerian Police, of any case of gunshot injury if such is presented.
