14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
INTRODUCTION: Jesus used the phrase ‘light of the word’ to describe Himself and His disciples in the New testament. The light of the word expresses the testimony of a follower of Christ who reveals and illuminates the truth of Jesus Christ everywhere and at all times.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. THE SYMBOLISM OF LIGHT
Light is used severally as a symbol of holiness (Isaiah 10:17). This depicts purity and transparency which must be evidence in the life of the followers of Christ.
ii. Light depicts knowledge and the followers of Christ are expected to be people who live in the understanding of the present and the future (Psalm 119:130; Luke 1:76-79).
iii. Light represents divine wisdom which was evident in the life of Stephen and Daniel (Acts 6:10; Daniel 5:14).
iv. It also epitomizes victory for every believers in Christ Jesus (Esther 8:16-17).
B. Christ showcases His light through the lives of His followers (Isaiah 60:1-3). This translates to the fact that the followers of Christ must standout (Proverbs 4:18)

2. BELIEVERS AS LIGHT CARRIERS
A. Believers who have the light of Christ residing in them:
i. Are expected to shine and be positive stimuli anywhere they are in the world (Romans 13:12).
ii. Must shine as they show forth their good works (Matthew 5:16)
B. Believers as carriers of light, are to illuminate the world as they
i. Bring the Good News to the lost (Isaiah 61:1),
ii. Are a blessing to people (Acts 9:39)
iii. Proffer solutions to problems (Daniel 2:24),
iv. Impact the world, take over territories for Jesus and be influential in the world of business, politics, sports, social media, etc. (Genesis 41:39-41; Acts 16:14-15; Daniel 6:1-3)
C. Integrity should also be the hallmark of these light carriers as they faithfully walk the talk (Job 27:5).
