TOPIC: God Will Help You
MEMORISE: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” – Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
READ: Isaiah 41:10-14 (KJV)
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 70-71
Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
The best thing that could happen to anyone is for God to decide to help him or her. When God decides to help you, there is nothing that can stand in the way of you fulfilling destiny. When it comes to resources, He said in Haggai 2:8:
“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts”
He also has influence in the highest places possible as we see in Proverbs 21:1
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will”
If not for God in my life, l wouldn’t be who l am today. When l gained admission to llesha Grammar School, we were to pay a deposit of 2 pounds, but my parents didn’t have it. One way or the other, God provided and l resumed in the school. By the end of the first year, almost everything in the house had been sold. By the time l had done 3 years in secondary school, there was nothing more to sell.
Just around that time, God brought somebody who had just returned from London to my village. Everybody went to celebrate with him. While everybody was surrounding him and rejoicing, he just turned in my direction and said “Hello, little boy”. We began to talk. At some point, he noted that my command of the English Language was very good and l told him l was a student in Ilesha Grammar School. He asked what class l was in and l told him l was supposed to go to Form 4 but there was no money. He arranged for the school fees for my 4th year. After that, my mother went back to the principal and said, “Now he has done 4 years; please give him his testimonial so he can go and teach”. The man said, “Out of 5 years, he has already done 4. He only has one more year to go; you can’t withdraw him now”. One way or the other l finished secondary school, gained admission to the University and got on the path of fulfilling my destiny, because God really helped me.
I pray for you today; God will move everything that needs to be moved for you to fulfill your destiny, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 16: O God Our Help In Ages Past
1 O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2 Under the shadow of thy throne,
Thy Saints have dwelt secure.
Sufficient is thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3 Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4 A thousand ages in thy sight,
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night,
Before the rising sun.
5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream,
Dies at the opening day
6 O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guide while troubles (life) last,
And our eternal home.

TOPIC: Learn From Your Subordinates
MEMORISE: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” – Proverbs 1:7 (KJV)
READ: 2 Peter 3:14-16 (KJV)
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 68-69
Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
Don’t ever see anybody as too small to counsel you when you know that they have the knowledge that can move you to your next level. We see from our memory verse today that only fools despise wisdom and instruction.
I remember when social media was becoming popular; it was my youngest son whom I asked for tutoring. He was my teacher in that area of life. When I was in secondary school, I had some challenges with English Language. In those days, for the Cambridge exam (now known as Senior Secondary School Certificate Exam), the British said that it did not matter if you got an A1 in every other subject; if you failed English, then you would have failed all. I was just a village boy, nobody in my family could speak a word of English, so I knew I needed help. There was a boy in school who grew up in the United Kingdom, so he had a good grasp of the language, but he was my junior. I went to meet this junior boy and told him that he was to start teaching me English. I said whenever I had money, I would buy him groundnuts. He taught me English Language and I passed the exam. On the score sheet, there was no mention of the fellow who taught me, no one cared; as long as I knew what I was supposed to know, I passed the examination and moved on with my education.
Don’t ever feel too proud to learn from your subordinates. If we are to be honest, these young ones who are just coming up have tools that we did not have in our time. They have more access to knowledge than we do. If we learn the latest trends from them and then combine this knowledge with our wealth of experience, we will go really far. Believe me honestly, it does not matter who teaches you; all that matters is that you get the knowledge you need to move ahead in life. In our Bible reading for today, though Peter had been in ministry before Paul, he acknowledged that Paul had been given wisdom by God to preach deep truths on salvation. Put your pride aside and learn from even your subordinates so that you can continue to go higher and higher.
KEY POINT:
Don’t despise the wisdom you need to succeed just because it is domiciled in your subordinate.
HYMN 25: To God Be The Glory, Great Things He Hath Done
1 To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
CHORUS
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.
2 Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
3 Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.

TOPIC: Learn From Your Colleagues And Mates
MEMORISE: “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (KJV)
READ: Colossians 3:16 (KJV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 65-67
Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
There are people who may appear to be your mates, but many of them could actually know a lot more than you do. Thus, whenever you discover such people, submit yourself to learn from them. By the time you begin applying the lessons you have learnt, it would be to your advantage.
For example, if you notice that one of your colleagues seems to get along with people easily and that gives him or her some advantage, take that fellow as your case study on how to get along with people. Begin to study him or her closely so that you can gain tips on getting along well with people too. When you need the fellow to explain something about how they get along with people to you, set pride aside and ask. Once you notice something at which someone else is better, it does not matter if the fellow is your mate or even junior to you – learn it from him or her. The Bible does not only encourage elders teaching the younger ones, it also encourages that contemporaries learn from one another and even that you can learn from your juniors. Just ensure that what you learn is in line with the word of God. Our Bible reading today instructs us to allow the word of God to dwell richly in us for the purpose of teaching and admonishing one another.
I learnt how to pray – not from my Father-in-the-Lord or any of my Bible teachers then, but from a brother in the Church. I wanted to pray for long hours, but whenever I started praying, after 5-10 minutes, I would have nothing to say again. I noticed that this brother used to pray for very long, so I decided to always take a position very close to him whenever he was praying. I noticed that for a one-hour prayer time, for example, this brother would praise God for about 50-55 minutes and then make his request in 5-10 minutes. As I learned this, I also started practicing it and up until today, that is the format that my prayers take. What you learn from that person you may consider your contemporary or even junior to you may be one of your greatest strengths in the future.
ACTION POINT:
List out things that you know one or two people around you are better at than you, and start to learn from them.
HYMN 28: When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
2 Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3 Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
4 But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5 Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do;
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.

TOPIC: Learn From Your Superiors
MEMORISE: “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” – Philippians (KJV)
READ: 2 Kings 3:11-12 (KJV)
11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may enquire of the Lord by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
12 And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the Lord is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 61-64
Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
There is something I have come to discover about some of our youths these days: It is that they despise people who have gone ahead of them just because those people are not as educated as they are or do not understand modern technology like they do. You see, you may know all the theories that were taught in school, but you don’t have as much practical experience as the elders who have gone ahead of you. You may understand modern technology more than they, but they have ancient wisdom that cannot be bought with money. When you see someone who has gone ahead of you in any field, make sure that you give him or her the deserved respect.
One of the major secrets of my success is that I learn from everyone who I know has been in ministry before me. There is always something to learn from someone who has already walked through the path that you are seeking to take. James 5:10 says:
“Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.”
Of a truth, the younger can become more successful than the older, but the younger must not, because of his or her success, despise the older. If God makes you more successful than those who have been in that field longer than you, you are only enjoying mercy and grace. Be careful not to despise them because God can withdraw the grace from you; rather, learn from their wealth of experience. God may have stopped speaking to Eli, but Samuel still needed the older prophet to teach him how to hear from God. Though God told Samuel that He had rejected Eli and chosen him in his place, Samuel never despised Eli. This contributed immensely to the success of his ministry.
There is a lot that these elders know which can be of great benefit to you on your journey through life. I remember when Pa S.G. Elton was alive and I was just beginning in ministry. I made it a point of duty to visit him every 2 weeks and spend quality time with him, just soaking up his wealth of experience. Now he is gone, with all that knowledge. Don’t let the knowledge of the elders around you go to waste; honour them, learn all you can from them while they are still with you.
KEY POINT:
Always be on the lookout for what you can learn from those who have gone ahead of you.
HYMN 1: All To Jesus I Surrender
1 All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
Chorus:
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
2 All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
3 All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
4 All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
5 All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!

TOPIC: What Do You Want?
MEMORISE: “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” – Matthew 6:10 (KJV)
READ: Exodus 33:18-23 (KJV)
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
The question in our topic for today is one that invariably every human being will be asked at one point or another. Some people have already been asked this question before and their answer made them lose an opportunity that would have changed their lives forever. Your answer to this question, depending on who is asking you, can change your life for the better if you give the correct response. When God told Solomon to say what he wanted in 2 Chronicles 1:6-7, he asked for wisdom to lead God’s people right. That answer made him end up as the richest and wisest king in the world, ever. When Elisha was asked this same question, he said he wanted a double portion of the spirit of Elijah and he got it. What do you want? Esau wanted food; he got it, but he who could have become the nation of Israel missed that great destiny. Gehazi wanted money, he got it, but he who could have gotten a double portion of the anointing on Elisha died a leper. Jeremiah 45:5 says:
“And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest”
Ecclesiastes 1:2 says “all these things are vanity upon vanity”. Jesus Christ told us what to seek in Matthew 6:33:
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”
Seek God, seek that His kingdom be established here on earth. Jeremiah 29:13 says if you seek Him, you will find Him. Let your yearning be for Him and Him alone, then all the things that others are chasing will be chasing you. Seek Him in worship, seek Him through Bible study, seek Him in prayers.
Set your love upon God. Love Him with all your heart, soul and mind as Jesus instructed us in Matthew 22:37 and see if you will ever lack any good thing.
REFLECTION:
How desperately do you yearn for God?
HYMN 12: My Faith Looks Up To Thee
1 My faith looks up to thee,
thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine.
Now hear me while I pray;
take all my guilt away;
O let me from this day
be wholly thine!
2 May thy rich grace impart
strength to my fainting heart;
my zeal inspire!
As thou hast died for me,
oh, may my love to thee
pure, warm, and changeless be,
a living fire!
3 While life’s dark maze I tread,
and griefs around me spread,
be thou my guide.
Bid darkness turn to day,
wipe sorrow’s tears away,
nor let me ever stray
from thee aside.
4 When ends life’s transient dream,
when death’s cold, sullen stream
shall o’er me roll,
blest Savior, then, in love,
fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above,
a ransomed soul!

TOPIC: Thank God For What You Have
MEMORISE: “Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.” – 1 Corinthians 10:10 (KJV)
READ: 1 Timothy 6:6 -10 (KJV)
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 55-57
Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:
Many people keep grumbling to God for what they don’t have and forget to thank Him for what they do. Believe me honestly, some people who have what you are running after are not enjoying life any better than you. You want fame? I can tell you that fame will limit you greatly. When we relocated to the Redemption Camp in Nigria, l could walk anywhere l wanted, praying all night. Now, the increase in the camp’s population over the years has significantly limited how much l can walk around. There are things you are enjoying currently, the value of which you really do not appreciate; enjoy them now, because when God begins to answer your prayers, you may never be able to enjoy them again.
1 Timothy 6:6 says that godliness with contentment is great gain. What exactly are you seeking that has made you ungrateful to God? Proverbs 23:5 says that money can develop wings and fly away; are you going to fly after it? When the money comes, you will discover, like the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 5:10, that it does not satisfy those who love it.
Many years ago, I spent a night at the house of a very wealthy man. When it was time for breakfast the next day, the cook came and asked him, “Sir, what would you like for breakfast?” He asked, “What did I eat yesterday?” The cook told him; he asked what he ate the day before, the cook told him. After so much deliberation, they finally decided on bread with eggs. Another round of deliberations started when the cook asked, “What kind of eggs do you want? Fried, scrambled, boiled …?” After a lot of talk, he decided that he wanted the eggs boiled. The cook then asked, “How do you want the egg cooked? Hard-boiled, medium-boiled, soft-boiled?” He answered, “Medium-boiled”. It took 30 minutes for him to decide on what to eat for breakfast. When the cook asked for what I’d like for breakfast, I said to him, “Give me everything you have, just make sure it is plenty”. He asked “You want eggs?” I said, “Yes”. “How do you want the eggs?” I said, “Whatever way you want it”. He said, “How about an omelette?” I said “Just make sure you put everything in the omelette”. I don’t have so much, but I have a good appetite; I rejoice and glorify God for that. Are you grateful to God that at least, you can eat? Be grateful for what you have; stop complaining about what you don’t. God is faithful and He will meet all your needs at the right time.
PRAYER POINT:
Father, I thank you for all that You have given me. I am extremely grateful, Lord.
HYMN 15: Now Thank We All Our God
1 Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mothers’ arms
has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.
2 O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us,
to keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
of this world in the next.
3 All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son and Spirit blest,
who reign in highest heaven
the one eternal God,
whom heaven and earth adore;
for thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.
