26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Acts 18:1-28, Psalms 13-16
MESSAGE:
Hebrews 11:1 says:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of thinTgs not seen.”
Many people don’t know that faith has a partner known as works. One cannot exist without the other. In fact, when a believer takes a leap of faith, God looks out for the matching works, so that He can bless the fellow. For instance, the woman with the issue of blood suffered for twelve years until she heard that Jesus was in her neighbourhood. She did not stay at home waiting for a miracle but went to the place of the meeting, forced her way through the crowd until she got really close and touched the hem of His garment.
Many Christians get it wrong by not creating a balance. A student who goes on a 14-day prayer and fasting spree just to pass an examination but doesn’t put much time into studying and attending lectures may end up failing. Similarly, an employee who is praying to be promoted at work but resumes late and performs poorly at his/her duties will most likely be demoted or even sacked. God wants us to have absolute faith in Him but there is also the place of work and expertise in all that we do. As much as possible, be sure to balance faith with works.
KEY POINT:
Take steps to balance faith with works henceforth.
HYMN: ‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus
CHORUS
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!
