MFM Devotional For Today MESSAGE:
The Bible clearly stipulates the qualities that a steward must possess. Beloved, let us examine some of these defining characteristics of a good and faithful steward in the light of the Scriptures.
First, a good and faithful steward is totally surrendered to God and dependent on Him. He allows Him to lead and show the way. He understands that God is the Owner and takes instructions from Him on how to manage the resources entrusted to him. For a surrendered steward, it is no longer, “How do I want to spend my day?” It is now, “God, how do you want me to spend Your day?” It is no longer, “How do I want yo spend my money?” It is now, “God, how do you want me to spend Your money?” It is no longer, “How much of my money do I want to give to the Lord?” It is now, “God, how much of Your money should I be keeping for myself?” It is no longer, “How do I want to care for and feed my body?” It is now, “God, how do You want me to care for and feed Your body?” It is no longer, “How do I want to raise my children?” It is now, “God, how do You want me to raise Your children?” It is no longer, “What kind of house and car do I want to have?” It is now, “God, what kind of house and car do You want me to have?”.

Second, a good and faithful steward lives a life of regular self-examination. In 2 Corinthians 13:5, Paul admonished the believers in Corinth to examine themselves, to see whether they are in faith. He also told them in 1 Corinthians 11:28 that a man ought to examine himself before he eats or drinks of the cup (referring to taking the communion). Also, Prophet Jeremiah exhorted people in Lamentation 3:40 to test and examine their ways. Therefore, to be a faithful steward of someone else’s resources, you should routinely examine how effectively you are carrying out your responsibilities. As a parent, leader, employee or in whatever capacity you act as a steward, you should carry out this self-examination periodically. The purpose is to help you see where you stand or what you weigh on God’s scale and adjust appropriately.
