TOPIC: God’s Promises Are Sure, Stable And Concrete

READ: Exodus 23:20-33 (NKJV)

  1. ” Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.
  2. “Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name [is] in Him.
  3. “But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
  4. “For My Angel will go before you and bring you in to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.
  5. “You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and completely break down their [sacred] pillars.
  6. “So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
  7. “No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.
  8. ” I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn [their] backs to you.
  9. “And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you.
  10. “I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you.
  11. “Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.
  12. “And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.
  13. “You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
  14. “They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For [if] you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

THE MESSAGE:

God’s promises are placed on conditions. Claiming God’s promises without meeting the conditions for their actualisation is a big problem in the Church today. In today’s text, God promised Israel: An angel to guard them as well as God being an enemy to their enemies and an adversary to their adversaries. He also promised to bless their bread and water and remove from among them sicknesses, miscarriages, barrenness and terrors. They would increase and possess the land. These blessings were however based on the following:

They should give heed to the angel and never rebel against him, they were to obey God absolutely, they would not serve or make covenants with the gods of the land; they were to serve God alone. They rebelled and many died. The above promises are also for us today with the conditions; they are solutions to our problems today if only we obey. God’s promises are sure, authentic, stable and concrete; it is impossible that God should lie.

Abraham never doubted the promise of God because he was fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised (Romans 4:19-21; Hebrews 6:13-19). This should be our attitude today.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please help me to believe and stand on all Your promises to me in Jesus’ name. Amen.
