Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a Miramax drama titled Scandalous. The actress will be teaming up with her Euphoria co-star Colman Domingo, who will serve as the project’s director. The film will be the feature directorial debut of Domingo.
Other details about the film remain under wraps, but it is reportedly planning to start production once both Domingo and Sweeney have completed the production for the third season of HBO’s Euphoria.
What will Scandalous entail?
According to Deadline, Scandalous — described as a “fast-tracked” drama — will chronicle the secret love affair between film star Kim Novak (known for Vertigo, Picnic, and The Notorious Landlady) and singer and actor Sammy Davis Jr. (Tap, Ocean’s 11).
While most details about the film remain unknown, it is expected to focus on the love affair that threatened Novak and Davis Jr.’s careers at the time. Their relationship was deemed controversial in 1957, and both faced backlash as interracial relationships were widely criticized during their time.
Sweeney will be joined by Alien: Romulus actor David Jonsson as Davis Jr., while Sweeney will portray Novak. Written by Matthew Fantaci, Sweeney will also serve as the film’s producer alongside Tani Cohen and Bobby Roth, with Jon Levin executive producing.
The announcement comes on the heels of Sweeney’s involvement in Paul Feig’s The Housemaid and the still-untitled Christy Martin biopic. Besides Euphoria, she is also known for her roles in Clementine, Nocturne, The Voyeurs, Reality, Americana, Anyone but You, Immaculate, The Handmaid’s Tale, and The White Lotus.
Known for his roles as Augustus Sackey in Industry and Dom in Rye Lane, Jonsson’s other acting credits include Bonhoeffer, Deep State, and Murder is Easy. He can next be seen in The Long Walk, an upcoming horror movie directed by Francis Lawrence.
Meanwhile, Colman had some directing credits on episodes of Fear the Walking Dead. He has starred in movies like Candyman, Rustin, Sing Sing, and The Color Purple, among others.
