Netflix has released the first Lonely Planet trailer, previewing its upcoming romantic drama starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. The film is set to release on Netflix on October 11, 2024.
The Lonely Planet trailer details Dern’s character, a reclusive novelist, partaking in a writer’s retreat in Morocco. There, she meets a young man (Hemsworth), whom she begins to bond with throughout their time there.
Along with Dern and Hemsworth, the film stars Diana Silvers, Younès Boucif, Adriano Giannini, and Rachida Brakni.

Lonely Planet is directed by Susannah Grant, and is Grant’s second time directing a feature film following 2006’s Catch and Release. She also co-created and served as a showrunner on Netflix’s Unbelievable, which was released in 2019 and stars Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever.
“A reclusive novelist arrives at a prestigious writer’s retreat in Morocco, hoping the remote setting will unlock her writer’s block,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “While there, she meets a young man — what starts as an acquaintanceship evolves into an intoxicating, life-altering love affair.”
Grant produces the new Netflix movie alongside Liza Chasin and Sarah Timberman. Brendan Ferguson, Corinne Weber, and Margaret Chernin serve as executive producers.
