Sofía Vergara is open to returning to the world of Modern Family, and has even suggested the possibility of a television movie coming in the future.
Speaking to Variety in a recent cover story profile, Vergara said that she’d love to step back into the iconic comedy series, even suggesting that something like a TV movie could work for the series.
“I’d die to be on that set,” Vergara said. “It’d be so much fun. A TV movie, maybe?”
Vergara did note that it’s too soon to bring back the series, however, and also joked that she is constantly telling Ed O’Neill (who starred in the series alongside Vergara) that he can’t die before they get the chance to do a reunion.
“I always joke with him [saying], ‘Ed, don’t die because if we do the sequel, it will take some time, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead,’” said Vergara.
Modern Family originally premiered in 2009, and ran for 250 episodes before ending in 2020. The series followed the lives of three different families set up in suburban Los Angeles, all of which were related through the patriarch, Jay Pritchett (played by Ed O’Neill). The series was a massive hit throughout its entire run, and won a total of 22 Emmy Awards during its time on air.
Alongside O’Neill and Vergara, Modern Family also starred Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, Jeremy Maguire, and Reid Ewing.
