Paul Thomas Anderson’s next movie has a budget of over $140 million.
Anderson started filming his next movie, under the working title BC Project, in January 2024. It will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and more.
According to a recent article from The Wall Street Journal, Anderson was reportedly given over $140 million to make his next film.
“That amount is more than double his typical budget,” The Wall Street Journal’s article reads. “The highest-grossing movie of Anderson’s career is 2007’s There Will Be Blood, which took in $76 million at the box office. Warner executives say DiCaprio’s box-office track record justifies the budget for Anderson.”
DiCaprio is reportedly making approximately $20 million for starring in the film.
Plot details for Anderons’ next movie — which is rumored to be called The Battle of Baktan Cross, though this has not been confirmed as no official announcement regarding the title has yet been made at this time — remain largely under wraps.
Anderson wrote the script for the movie and serves as a producer alongside Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.
Anderson made his feature film directorial debut in 1996 with Hard Eight. He followed that up with Boogie Nights in 1997, which earned him a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the Academy Awards. Along with There Will Be Blood, Anderson is also known for making 1999’s Magnolia, 2002’s Punch-Drunk Love, 2012’s The Master, 2014’s Inherent Vice, 2017’s Phantom Thread, and, most recently, 2021’s Licorice Pizza.
The next movie by Paul Thomas Anderson will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures. It will be Anderson’s first film to ever be released in IMAX.
