Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
Ex-President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed concern over the high rate of poverty and joblessness among youths in Africa.
He stated that if attention is not paid to the needs of the youths in Africa, it will be very ugly for everyone on the continent.
Reacting to the recent protest in Kenya, the former President said African youths have nothing to lose as many of them are not empowered and in poverty.
ββIf you have nothing to gain and you are jobless, unempowered, in poverty and you see your leaders, some of them in obscene affluence, What do you do? You are a human being and the resources of your country are provided for that country by God for the benefit of all the citizens of that country”
Obasanjo said what may happen in Africa if the needs of the youths are not addressed as soon as possible may be worse than the Arab Spring.
ββIt’s the beginning and if no adequate attention is paid to the needs of the youths in Africa, the autumn will turn to winter and it will be very ugly for all of us”
