Gov Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has allegedly spent ₦ 1.1 billion in the first three months of 2024, to purchase furniture.

According to a review of the Edo State budget performance documents by SaharaReporters, the state budgeted to spend ₦2.2 billion on chairs in the 2024 fiscal year and has already expended ₦1.1 billion as of the first quarter of the year.

This development comes even as the state spent ₦203 million on refreshments and meals in the first three months of 2024.

A total of ₦739 million was earmarked for refreshments and meals for the whole of 2024.

The state had earlier budgeted ₦ 1.030 billion for the Ministry of Water Resources but has not spent any money on the ministry.

Only ₦5 million was spent on the ministry of environment and sustainability by the state.

In the first three months of the year, the state spent nothing on its erosion, flood and watershed management agency.

It is unclear why the state government spent a whopping ₦1.1billion on chairs in the first three months of 2024.

Efforts by the publication to reach the Senior Special Adviser on Media to Governor Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, proved abortive as he did not pick up calls nor return messages sent via text and WhatsApp.
