The Platform 2 teaser trailer marks the return of the vertical prison nicknamed “The Pit.” A platform with food lowers from the ceiling and stops briefly on each floor. When the platform is at the top level, it’s full of food. As the platform lowers into The Pit, less food is available to the lower-level prisoners. This is a source of conflict between the prisoners.
The Platform 2 stars Milena Smit (The Snow Girl), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones), and Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).
Netflix’s official synopsis reads: “As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?”
Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who helmed The Platform, returns to direct The Platform 2. Producers include Gaztelu-Urrutia, Carlos Júarez, and Raquel Perea of Basque Films.
Released in 2019, The Platform became a smash hit for Netflix. It starred Iván Massagué, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale Coka, and Alexandra Masangkay. The Spanish sci-fi horror is currently the fifth most popular film (non-English) in Netflix’s history, with 82.8 million views.
