The Clean Borehole Water Sellers Association (CBWSA) of Lagos is an esteemed organization representing a coalition of water vendors within the state. Our mission is to champion access to clean water, advocate for sanitation practices, and raise awareness about hygiene, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation, for the benefit of the people of Lagos state.

With a membership exceeding 10,000 individuals, our association comprises a diverse demographic, with 50% women, 30% men, 18% older adults, and 2% people with disabilities. These members are distributed across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state, each afforded equal opportunities for participation and empowerment, ensuring inclusivity across all segments of society. Additionally, our association prides itself on reflecting Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, with significant representation from the three major ethnic groups – Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa – as well as other minority ethnic groups, harmoniously spread throughout Lagos state.

We are recruiting to fill the position below for an oncoming donor funded project:

Job Description


The GIS Expert will be responsible for managing the geospatial components of the mapping and survey activities related to borehole water sellers in Lagos State.
This role involves collecting, analysing, and visualizing geographic data to support the project’s objectives.
The GIS Expert willutilize advanced GIS technologies and tools to create accurate maps, spatial databases, and spatial analysis reports to aid decision-making and planning.

Key Responsibilities
Geospatial Data Collection:


Collect and compile geospatial data related to borehole water sellers, including locations, water sources, distribution networks, and operational capacities.
Utilize GPS devices, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and other geospatial technologies to gather accurate spatial data.

Spatial Analysis and Modelling:


Conduct spatial analysis to identify patterns, trends, and relationships within the data, such as spatial clustering of water vendors or proximity to water sources.
Develop spatial models and simulations to predict future scenarios and assess the impact of interventions on water access and distribution.

Map Creation and Visualization:


Create detailed maps and visualizations to represent geospatial data, including thematic maps, heat maps, and spatial overlays.
Design and customize map layouts and symbology to effectively communicate spatial information to project stakeholders and decision-makers.

Technical Support and Training:


Provide technical support and training to project staff, supervisors, and enumerators on GIS tools, techniques, and best practices.
Collaborate with ICT experts and LUWASH experts to integrate GIS data with electronic
databases and monitoring systems.

Database Management:


Manage geospatial databases and data repositories containing spatial data layers, attribute tables, and metadata.
Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency by performing regular quality checks and
updates.

Expected Results
Accurate Geospatial Data:


Generate accurate and up-to-date geospatial data sets on borehole water sellers in Lagos State, including their locations, operational characteristics, and service areas.
Create detailed maps and spatial visualizations to illustrate the distribution and density of water vendors across urban areas.

GIS Integration:


Integrate GIS data with electronic databases and monitoring systems to facilitate data-driven decision-making and monitoring of project activities.
Ensure seamless interoperability between GIS applications and other project management tools and platforms.

Spatial Analysis Reports:


Produce spatial analysis reports highlighting key findings, trends, and insights derived from geospatial data analysis.
Identify spatial patterns, hotspots, and areas of need to inform decision-making and resource allocation for water access improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills


Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in GIS data collection, analysis, and visualization, preferably in a development or environmental context.
Knowledge of geodatabase management, spatial data standards, and cartographic principles.
Experience in providing GIS technical support and training to non-specialist users.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills for managing multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
Proficiency in GIS software and tools, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth, as well as spatial analysis techniques and methodologies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex spatial data and communicate findings effectively.

Salary
N350,000 – N400,000 / month.
