17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:

Fasting is a spiritual exercise that every child of God must do. The flesh does not like it but it is very healthy for the spirit man. Fasting empowers the spirit man and fortifies it. The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries encourages dry fasting during its deliverance programme because of its effectiveness. The common fast known to many is the fast where we do not eat or drink anything, but there are various others. One can fast of sugar, food, meat, drinks, etc. Fasting, generally, is a spiritual exercise done to humble the flesh of its excesses.

The flesh loves to express itself always and it loves to be worshipped. It loves to gain attention over everything else, but we must not be brought under its power. As a Christian, the flesh is a major enemy that must be silenced on a daily basis. If you do not humble the flesh, it will hinder you from attaining any height spiritually. So the number one benefit of fasting is that it humbles the flesh (Psalms 35:13).

In Daniel 9:3, the Bible says, “And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel was interceding for his people and wanted to know when they would be free from their captivity; he prayed and fasted. Though the prince of Persia tried to hinder his answer from heaven, he prevailed. Fasting gives prayer power to break barriers and receive effective result.

In Matthew 17:21, Jesus said, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” The disciples wondered why they could not heal the sick boy. They needed a level of authority which could only be accessed through fasting and prayer. When you add fasting to your prayers, it will enhance your spiritual power to cast out unclean spirits.

In the Bible, Prophetess Anna dedicated herself to sustained fasting and praying. She saw the word of the Lord come to pass. Acts 10:30 affirms that Cornelius was fasting and praying when he had an angelic visitation.

Beloved, through sustained fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit will empower you to overcome and dislodge evil forces that are assigned to work against the manifestation of God’s prophecy over your life. Fasting also enhances personal revival.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

O God, deliver me from the power of the flesh, in the name of Jesus.

O Lord, revive my spirit, in the name of Jesus.

Grace to fast and pray, rest upon me, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

Holy Spirit, lead me to the Cross, in the name of Jesus.

I silence the evil desires of my flesh, in the name of Jesus.

I receive the grace to fast and pray, in the name of Jesus.

O Lord, please help me, in the name of Jesus.
