Job Title: Agronomist
Location: Jigawa
Job Overview
We are seeking for a highly motivated and skilled Agronomist to join our team of experts in the wheat cultivation project Abunabo in Jigawa State, Nigeria.
The Agronomist will play a vital role in ensuring the successful implementation and management of a 5000-hectare wheat farming project, focusing on optimizing crop yields, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring food security.
Key Responsibilities
Researching, developing crop production plans, including planting, cultivation, and harvesting schedules.
Collect and analyse data related to crop performance, yield, and environmental factors.
Assisting with the plant selection process and the development of planting and irrigation schedules, budgets, and timelines.
Maintain up to date records of resource usage and expenses.
Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and alterations to farming practices.
Comply with all relevant environmental regulations.
Monitor and manage soil health, nutrient levels, and irrigation practices to optimize crop growth.
Implement pest and disease control measures to protect the wheat crop.
Oversee and coordinate all field operations, including land preparation, planting, and harvesting activities.
Supervise a team of field workers and provide training as needed.
Stay updated on the latest agronomic research and best practices in wheat cultivation to eensure that wheat production meets quality standards and specifications.
Identify and test innovative farming techniques, crop varieties, and technologies to improve yield and sustainability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
Minimum of 5 years proven experience in agronomic management, preferably in wheat cultivation.
Skills:
Strong analytical, decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments.
Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office
Exceptional active listening and verbal and written communication skills.
