The son of a former Ebonyi monarch, Nelson Igboke, has taken to social media to advise men against kneeling when proposing to their partners.
Nelson’s father, HRH Ezeogo Igboke Ewa, the traditional ruler of Umuezeokaoha community in Ezza North Local Government Area, was killed by gunmen on February 27, 2023.
According to Nelson, any man who kneels to propose to a woman or on his wedding day, has unknowingly submitted his authority to her.
He wrote,
“Once you kneel to engage a woman or on your wedding day, that’s the day you submitted your authority as a man to her unknowingly, such woman don’t make good wife.”
This statement provoked reactions from netizens who disagreed with his logic, while some affirmed that it was indeed wrong for a man to kneel to his partner. See some comments below,
Uchenna Ali commented, “Kneeling down or not kneeing down. Every woman is full of nonsense, when you are able to take their Nonsense and bring out Sense in them, that’s what that makes you a man. Study more about groom and bride. You groom your bride to become a wife. Men who lack the knowledge of grooming left their women to remain a bride instead of wife.”
Silas Obinna wrote, “They are busy doing what they learnt from our slavee master. I’m an igbo man and I will never kneel down to propose to a woman”
Fabian Nwachukwu commented, “It’s wrong for an Igbo man to kneel down for a woman for any reason, but it doesn’t really mean what you said.”
