Shudder and IFC Films have announced the theatrical and streaming release dates for When Evil Lurks, the new movie by Terrified director Demián Rugna.
It marks the second collaboration between Rugna and Shudder, the genre-focused streaming service from AMC Network. The news was first reported by Deadline.
When Evil Lurks tells the story of a pair of brothers who find a mutilated corpse near their home. They decide to enlist the help of their neighbors to try and figure out where it came from. They soon learn that this and other odd happenings in their village are the cause of a spirit that’s found its way into a local man waiting for the proper protocols to rid his body of the festering demon. An escape attempt ensues as the film keeps its protagonists on edge, racing against imminent danger to shake the spirit’s relentless clutches.
Shudder and IFC confirmed When Evil Lurks will get a theatrical release on October 6, 2023, with a Shudder release coming on October 27, 2023.
The movie is set to receive its premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness.
Rugna’s previous movie Terrified released in 2017 to acclaim from the horror press. The movie sees a Police Commissioner and three researchers of supernatural phenomena investigate inexplicable events that are occurring in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. It had been due for a remake produced by Guillermo Del Toro.
