Director Paul Verhoeven‘s new movie has been revealed to be Sans Compter.
Verhoeven has directed numerous famous movies, such as RoboCop, Total Recall, and Basic Instinct. He spent the better part of the 21st century making movies in Europe, and the 85-year-old director is still at it. He is working on an erotic political thriller named Young Sinner, and a new report reveals another project he’s working on.
In the latest issue of Premiere (via World of Reel), producer Saïd Ben Saïd confirmed Verhoeven’s next project would be Sans compter, an adaptation of Philippe Dijan’s novel. This would be Verhoeven’s second time adapting a Dijan novel after he adapted the novel Oh… into his movie Elle.
“Sans Compter tells the story of Nathan, a journalist, fascinated by Gaby, his mother-in-law, a poet,” reads the synopsis. “The latter lives in the same vast estate property as Nathan and his wife. One day a promoter tries to buy parts of the land to build an amusement park and comes up against Gaby’s categorical refusal, things get worse: a deputy gets annoyed, a hiker mysteriously disappears and Nathan unravels. The novel is told from Nathan’s, questionable, point of view.”
