The bereaved mother of a 25-year-old man, Temitope Olorufemi, who was beaten to death by a mob in Akure, Ondo State, has spoken out following her son’s tragic death.
It was earlier reported that Temitope, aka Newcash, was lynched by an irate mob after he crushed at least two people to death with his car.
According to reports, he was driving recklessly along Ijomimo Junction, Ijoka Road, when he knocked down the victims, who died on the spot.
Following the incident, angry youths in the community unleashed venom on him, stoned him to death, and incinerated his car in a fit of rage. Read here.
Speaking on the tragic incident in an interview, the deceased’s mother revealed that her son is neither a Yahoo boy nor a “ritualist, as alleged by eyewitnesses.
She explained that her son was a cabbie and had been gifted the car by his dad.
She further disclosed that after the deceased completed his studies at Marshal’s Navy School in Ogun State, he went to Lagos in search of greener pastures. But, after a while, he returned home because he was struggling there.
According to her, Temitope was visiting Akure for the Easter holiday to meet his wife and child, who had traveled for his grandmother’s funeral, when the event that led to his death occurred.
