The upcoming HBO Max series Welcome to Derry is set to act as a prequel to the It movies from Andy Muschietti. However, the man who played the iconic clown Pennywise in both films is not involved in the project as of yet.

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Bill Skarsgård revealed that he was not a part of the show as of now, but wouldn’t exactly rule out playing the character. However, should he not, he did have some advice for the person stepping into the large shoes of Pennywise.

“We’ll see what they come up with and what they do with it. I’m not currently involved in it,” Skarsgård said. “If someone else gets to [play Pennywise], my advice is to make it your own. Have fun with it. What I thought was so pleasurable about that character was how incredibly abstract he was. The book is really a gift that way.”

The new It films were a massive success at the box office, grossing over $1.1 billion combined globally following their release. It Chapter Two was the latest release and took place 27 years after the events of the first film. The sequel featured an entirely new cast that included Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, and Andy Bean.

“Set in the world of Stephen King’s It universe, Welcome to Derry is based on King’s It novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films It and It Chapter Two,” reads the logline.
