Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided a fresh update on the fitness of Anthony Martial.
The forward spent most of February sidelined with a hip problem, while his last few seasons have been plagued by various injuries.
Martial has scored just 15 goals in all competitions ever since his prolific 2019/20 season in which he claimed the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth round tie with West Ham, Ten Hag was asked if Martial could return to the United fold before the international break later in March.
“I hope but I won’t give a prospective [time], or an expectation about that,” responded the boss, when asked if Martial could feature before the break for March’s upcoming internationals.
“Let him do his work, as several times now, he has been back and he drops back too quickly.
“We [have to] give him the time and I hope he is on board but first, in this moment, we are doing really well in this set-up. When he is available, we will have another option, a good option.
“Let’s give him the time and we will see when he is back. Then we will be happy because we have a quality option extra for the rest of the season.”
