He gained more popularity in the early to mid-1970s when he started to sing solo. His shot to international stardom came during the late 70s when he starred in a variety series with his sister called Donny & Marie from 1976 to 1979. The show was revived from 1998 to 2000 and this led to the duo winning a Daytime Emmy Award. The brother and sister also went on to release a series of top-ten hits and gold albums as a duo.
