Ella Toone has won her wrongful dismissal claim following her red card against Tottenham and will now be available for Manchester United’s next three matches.
Toone was shown a red card for violent conduct after pushing Eveliina Summanen during her side’s 2-1 victory over Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
The pair become tangled following a coming together and Toone then pushed the Spurs midfielder towards the turf, making contact with her shoulder. Summanen went down clutching her face. Marc Skinner admitted at full time the club intended to appeal the decision.
A three match suspension would have meant the United midfielder missing her side’s next three matches: the FA Cup fifth round tie with Durham, WSL clash with Leicester and crunch league fixture against Chelsea.
“Ella Toone will be available for Manchester United Women’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal,” a statement from the FA read.
Despite Toone’s sending off in the 80th minute on Sunday, United held on to their 2-1 victory over Spurs to send them top of the WSL. Leah Galton had seen her opener cancelled out by a Bethany England strike, before Molly Bartrip turned Lucia Garcia’s cross into her own net 14 minutes from time.
