IFC Films has revealed the official trailer for The Lost King, the upcoming comedy drama starring Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins as a woman who gets obsessed with searching for the long-lost grave of King Richard III. The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. It will arrive in theaters on March 24.
The Lost King is directed by Stephen Frears from a screenplay written by Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, based on real-life story of Philippa Langley’s discovery of King Richard III’s remains under a car park. It is produced by Coogan, Christine Langan, and Dan Winch.
The film stars Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Steve Coogan (The Trip films), Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Lee Ingleby (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), James Fleet (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Bruce Fummey, and Amanda Abbington (Sherlock).
“In 2012, having been lost for over 500 years, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a car park in Leicester,” reads the synopsis. “The search had been orchestrated by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting research had been met with incomprehension by her friends and family and with skepticism by experts and academics. The Lost King is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history.”
