According to a recent report from The Cosmic Circus, actress Jona Xiao is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an unknown role.
The report notes that the move was first spotted on Xiao’s resume on the website Actors Access for actors. On Xiao’s page, she is now listed as a “Lead Female” for an “NDA Marvel Project” on the Disney+ streaming platform.
While everything is currently being kept under wraps, the role of “Lead Female” suggests that Xiao will be heading up the project, or at the very least play a large role in the series somehow.
As of now, it’s unknown whether or not the series is live-action or animated. Given that Marvel Studios has a ton of different projects coming down the pipeline in the future, it’s likely we’ll know in the near future just what Xiao’s role will be.
For Xiao, this would actually be her second time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the first time her role made it to the screen. She was initially cast in a role in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming but had her part cut in the final version of the film.
Xiao is best known for her recurring role in the 2017 TV series Being Mary Jane, as well as the 2021 Starz crime drama Hightown, which also featured her in a recurring role. Most recently, Xiao lent her voice to the 2021 animated film Raya and the Last Dragon, where she played a younger version of Namaari, a warrior princess and the film’s main antagonist.
