Marcus Rashford appeared to pull up with an injury during the first half of the Manchester derby before scoring the winner late on.
The England forward has been in sparkling form and had opportunities to put Manchester United ahead in the first half, most notably being smothered by Ederson after overcooking his touch when played in on goal.
Just before half time, Rashford chased a long ball and looked to have sustained an injury, receiving treatment and seemingly putting his second-half participation in doubt.
However, the 25-year-old reemerged after the break, with Antony replacing Anthony Martial who had a poor first period.
Bruno Fernandes equalised after it was adjudged Rashford had not interfered in play by chasing Casemiro’s through ball before Rashford then steered in Alejandro Garnacho’s low cross as United completed a remarkable victory.
He came off in second-half injury time as Erik ten Hag brought on Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Lisandro Martinez to make sure of the win.
Rashford has put a poor 2021/22 season behind him to emerge as United’s primary attacking threat. He had scored in each of United’s previous six games, including most recently a double as a substitute against Charlton. He was also in good nick at the World Cup, scoring three times despite only starting one game.
