With little over a week left to go before we welcome a brand new year, HBO Max has unveiled a promo reel for its 2023 slate of upcoming and returning original shows.
This includes new footage of the Pedro Pascal-led apocalyptic drama The Last of Us, as well as our first look at True Detective: Night Country, which marks Oscar winner Jodie Foster’s first major scripted drama in five decades.
The HBO Max 2023 promo also features a new look at the upcoming seasons of hit shows like Succession, Perry Mason, Barry, The Righteous Gemstones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Harley Quinn, and more. It also shows new footage of upcoming original shows such as The Idol, The White House Plumbers, Love and Death, Velma, and Full Circle.
The Last of Us series will tackle the events of the first game with the possibility of additional content based on the sequel. It is set to be led by Game of Thrones alums Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. It is currently set to make its debut in 2023.
“The live-action series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed,” reads the synopsis. “Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across a post-pandemic America.”
True Detective: Night Country will be led by Jodie Foster as Detective Liz Danvers. She will be joined by boxer Kali Reis, John Hawkes (Deadwood), Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Finn Bennett (The Nevers), and Anna Lambe (Three Pines).
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace,” reads the synopsis. “To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
