After Everything

The After movie series is a guilty pleasure for many young adults despite the negative reviews the movie is getting online. Similar to the books that inspired the movie series, After revolves around the lives of Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, a couple who are in a tumultuous relationship that started when they met in college.

The movies were released first in theatres around the world and eventually on OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video across different regions. Starting from 2019, the series has released four movies so far that follow the titles of the four main After novels titled ‘After’, ‘After We Collided’, ‘After We Fell’ and ‘After Ever Happy’.

The fifth book in the series is titled ‘Before’ which is a new narration of the first book as seen from the per perspective of Hardin Scott. However, it is unlikely that the next and possibly the final movie in the After series will not be focussed on the story of the fifth novel. We suppose that the series finale will be based on the second half of the fourth novel.

The movie series does not see consistent and notable performances from side characters but Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin (who play Tessa and Hardin) are the only two characters that have been getting favourable reviews from fans.

With there being a dearth of movies from the romance genre, the After movie series is a constellation prize for young teens looking for swoon-worthy romance stories to watch in recent years. What is the After Movie Series about?

The After series tells the story of Theresa Young (Tessa) and Hardin Scott. After meeting him in college, Tessa falls in love with Hadin, the one boy that everyone close to her warns her about. But, since the heart wants what it wants, Tessa decides to continue her forbidden romance-fuelled relationship with Hardin.

The two are now out of college and are living their respective lives in separation. Tessa has moved to New York where she is trying to get into college as she works as a waitress. Meanwhile, Hardin has worked on his alcohol dependency and turned his life around by becoming a published author.

However, the movie ends with Tessa unhappy with Hardin for making their private lives public after he wrote his debut novel based on their turbulent relationship. Will Tessa eventually take Hardin back or will their love not stand the test of time, leading them to part ways for good?

What to expect from After Everything?

Since the fourth movie in the series ended with Tessa and Hardin having a fight because of him using their personal lives as a plot for his debut novel, it is possible that Tessa would leave Hardin for good in the series finale. Tessa was a promising young student before she moved to New York with Hardin’s step-brother and her best friend, Landon.

Tessa could very well get into college where she meets more new people and finally gets over Hardin. While that seems like a long shot, it is more likely that Tessa takes Hardin back one last time. Based on the books, the couple has their happy ending with Hardin becoming a changed man.

There is also a major revelation in the fourth movie that said Tessa cannot have children which seems like an ideal conflict point for the couple to navigate their lives around in the next movie. However, given the timeframe of the past films, it seems very unlikely that the makers would turn it into an intense plot device, and more likely that they just brush over the issue.

Who will star in After Everything?

From what limited confirmation has been released online, it is definitive that Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin will both reprise their roles as Tessa and Hardin. Given the fact that the movie series is notorious for re-casting supporting characters, there is not much that can be said about other actors making it in After Everything,

The main leads revealed that since the movies After Ever Happy and After Everything were both shot in one go, it can be expected that actors like Carter Jenkins, Arielle Kebbel, Chance Perdomo, Louise Lombard, Stephen Moyer, Rob Estes all reprise their respective roles in the last movie.

When could After Everything be released?

While the makers have not officially made any comments about the release of the final After movie, nothing much can be said about the release date of After Everything. Taking into consideration the past release timelines of the After movies which were released between August – October 2019-2022, it can be expected that After Everything releases between August to October 2023.

Since the last two movies were shot in quick succession After Everything could already have completed its post-production and it is also probable that the fifth After movie would be released in the first half of next year.
