Olumuyiwa Odusanya, a professor of Public and Community Health and former Provost of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, has been appointed as the first substantive vice-chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Odusanya’s appointment took effect on September 29, 2022, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Affairs Unit, Office of the Special Adviser on Education.
At the start of the new university, Sanwo-Olu accepted the appointment of Dr Nurudeen Olaleye, then substantive rector of the previous Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, as acting vice chancellor until the selection and appointment of the substantive vice-chancellor.
According to the statement, “it has become important to appoint a substantive Vice Chancellor for LASUSTECH to ensure that there is no vacancy in the university’s leadership and to maintain the institution’s necessary stability.”
“Odusanya was a Professor of Community and Primary Health in the Department of Community Health and Primary Health Care, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Lagos State University till his current position.”
