BIBLE TEXT: Galatians 5:13-24 (KJV)
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: There is a lot of difference between natural talents and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are special gifts given by the Spirit to believers to equip them for the work of the ministry and build up the body of Christ and God’s Kingdoms. There are many of these gifts and they are all available today as in the time of the Apostles.
LESSON AIM: To have deeper understanding of the gifts of Holy Spirit.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
i. Know what the gifts of the Holy Spirit entails.
ii. Know new abilities receive when we deplore the gifts into use.
TEXT REVIEW: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1-21.
i. The manifestation of the Spirit is to help the Church to progress.
ii. The distribution of those gifts is done by the Holy Spirit.
iii. Holy Spirit decides which gift each person should have.
iv. God works in our lives in different ways and different time.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: HOW MANY KINDS OF GIFTS ARE THERE?
There are various kinds of gifts of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 lists some of them as the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. This list consists of nine gifts. According to Ephesians 4:11, ministerial gifts were mentioned, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers, all these are to be used to equip the body of Christ and for the perfection of the saints. Ephesians 4:12.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: SHOULD WE DESIRE THE GIFTS?
The answer is given in 1 Corinthians 12:31. We are not just to desire them; we are to covet them. This is only covetousness that have divine blessing. Do not be satisfied with just one or two gifts. Seek and pray for others that will help you in the particular position He has given you in the body. In the parable of the talents, the man who was originally given five gained five more and the unused one was given to him as extra. He ended up with eleven talents. Initially, you may have one or two gifts. Try and identify them and then keep on seeking for more to use for His glory.
LESSON OUTLINE THREE: WHAT SHOULD BE DONE WITH THE GIFTS?
We are to use any gift given to us, 1 Timothy 4:14, some people hide their gifts because they consider them inferior to others. This can be very dangerous as the parable of talents shows. Not only, are we to use the gifts, we are also to improve on them, 2 Timothy 1:6. The gifts need constant usage to be advantageous to the Kingdom of God.
ACTIVITY: What do you understand by gifts of words of knowledge and wisdom.
CONCLUSION: Have you any gift? Have you been using them? Are they lost or you want to regain them? Or you want more? Why not talk to God about it.
