TOPIC: Freedom From Poverty Mentality
BIBLE TEXT: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” – 2 Corinthians 8:9
Poverty, among other things is a bondage of mind-set. It is the result of a person’s attitude and belief system. Poverty is something that resides within. It is a state of mind and about perspective, not always about money. Poverty is not a financial problem but a spiritual and mental problem. It happens inside of a man before it ever happens around him. It manifests first in the spirit and then in the natural. Therefore, being wealthy is not just about earning more money and similarly being poor is not just about having a low income or being unlucky. It has its root in the mind.
The bondage of poverty is a demonic stronghold that keeps a believer from walking in the fullness of the victory gained for him at the cross and the blessings of his inheritance in Christ. A stronghold is a fortified city which allows nothing in and nothing out. Satan builds spiritual strongholds of poverty over nations, families, churches, and individuals. These strongholds attack the minds and hearts of people in order to build patterns of poverty-thinking. A poverty mind-set draws our focus onto our conditions rather than the Word of God. It disguises itself as wisdom, claiming to look at things practically and realistically, but it actually sees things through the eyes of unbelief.
To break that state of mind we have to make different choices and unlock the shackles that have been placed on our minds either by our parents or the society around us. We need to cast down our bad thinking habits and embrace a positive mindset. God is the source of all wealth, blessings and riches, but these things can only be accessed by the mind through faith. If you renew your mindset, you are on your way to living the lifestyle you have always dreamed about. Prosperity is a part of our heavenly heritage. It comes with being a child of the King. God does not want you to live in poverty. According to today’s text, Jesus became poor so that you could become rich.
Beloved of God, freedom from poverty begins when a man admits this spiritual truth as in today’s text. You can begin the journey of prosperity as you renew your mind and change your mentality. Meditate more on relevant scriptural texts and build a mental picture of yourself living in abundance even in the midst of scarcity. This is the beginning of freedom.
