Best Park Bo Gum K-dramas

Park Bo-gum is a South Korean singer, musician, and actor who has played varying television roles. His acting duality has gained critical acclaim , making him one of the most sought- after actors in South Korea.

His partnership with different brands across the world has also contributed to his global fame and coined the term “the Bo-gum effect”

Reply 1988 (2015)

Bo-gum plays the role of Choi Taek, a Baduk player that has gained international recognition. Despite his fame and domination on the baduk board, he is quiet and struggles while handling daily tasks.

In addition, the money and recognition set him apart from his age group, which prompts him to rely on his neighborhood friends for connection to youth, grounding, and companionship. He is a generous character that rarely creates trouble. He has to navigate the dilemma between friendship and romance when he realizes his crush has another admirer. 

Hello Monster (2015)

Bo-gum plays the role of a lawyer, Jung Sun-ho who is also the long-lost brother of a lead detective in the series going by his childhood name Lee Min. Young Lee Min’s character is alarming which petrifies his father who is a criminal psychologist.

However, the father mistakenly thinks his eldest son is the one with psychotic tendencies due to clever manipulation from the younger Lee Min. 

Eventually, the father locks his eldest son away thinking he is sheltering him from the world. However, little Lee Min is deprived of the strongest influence that helped him shelter his evil tendencies. He, therefore, felt abandoned with his brother locked away in the basement. 

Love In The Moonlight (2016)

Bo-gum plays the role of crown prince Lee Yeong who is the king’s only son and heir to the throne. He is mischievous, smart, intelligent, and bright but also unpredictable which annoys his servants. He loves music and the arts. In the beginning, he has a complicated relationship with his father blaming him for the death of his mother.

He falls in love with Hong Ra-on who is a female disguised as a eunuch in the royal palace, together they get embroiled in political power struggles. They discover hidden secrets keeping the king politically weak and start a plan to strengthen the royal family and get back power from the Royal Court. He stands up to fight the power-hungry antagonists and take his rightful place as a powerful king.

Encounter (2018)

Kim Jin-hyuk is an ordinary free-spirited man who finds joy and happiness in the simplest things. He works several part-time jobs and is on the lookout for a steady job offer. He goes on a brief trip to Cuba after an interview for a hotel job.

After his brief visit, he goes back to Korea and receives a call offering him a job at Donghwa Hotel. It turns out his new boss is the woman he met during his trip to Cuba.

 Jin-hyuk faces agony and hardships in his quest for love given the different backgrounds between him and Cha Soo Hyun played by Song Hye Kyo. Although a young man, he portrays maturity, understanding, determination, and persistence in fighting for his unconditional love and never gives up until he gets his happy ending.

Record of Youth (2020)

Park Bo-gum plays the role of Sa Hye-jun, an aspiring actor from a middle-class family working as a model. Hye-jun is determined to achieve his dream and has a strict mindset to do so which leads to misunderstandings and conflicts with his unsupportive father. He even postpones his mandatory military enlistment to first work on his dream. 

He has to overcome many challenges as he tries to navigate showbiz without any connections, which makes it difficult to get any roles. Despite losing several auditions and increasingly disappointing his father, he does not give up. When fame finally comes his way, the path ahead is not any smoother as controversies and pressures start to create a wedge between him and his close friends. 

Wonderful Days

Although Bo-gum played a supporting role in this melodrama, he earned nominations for his role as young Kang Dong Suk and garnered popularity. Kang Dong Suk overcomes poverty and becomes a successful prosecutor. He falls in love with his childhood crush when he returns to his hometown and their love story begins again.
